Our History
Meharry Family & Community Medicine was established in 1974 and became a department in July 1980. The department has since merged with the Divisions of Occupational Medicine, Preventive Medicine, Center for Communit-based Training and Research, and the Center for Nutrition. This colaborative relationship provides opportunities for health research, joint residency training, shared resources, and many other opportunities.
Meharry Medical College, established in 1876, occupies a 26 acre setting in the heart of Nashville, the capital of Tennessee. Nashville is situated on the Cumberland River in Central Tennessee, roughly equidistant from Memphis and Atlanta. Meharry Medical College is the Largest private, comprehensive historically black institution for educating health professionals and scientists in the United States. |
